When to retake the GRE

What is considered to be a good score for GRE?

What is a good GRE score to get into a good graduate school? Is it wise to attempt GRE more than one time? - Nandila Bhattacharjee

As with all admissions tests, it is best to take the GRE only once and perform to the best of your ability. If you feel that you're not ready for the test, it is better to have it rescheduled to a future date than risk taking it twice. When you take the test more than once and if the scores are more than a few points different, colleges will have a tough time evaluating your performance. So, don't give them the chance. The elite schools (Ivies, Stanford, MIT, Duke, Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, UT Austin, Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley) routinely expect GRE scores above 330. To be competitive at schools ranked between 20 and 40, you should have GRE scores of 324 plus. Most college STEM programs at the graduate level expect Indian students to do well on the GRE Math section, so try to impress them with a strong GRE verbal score.
