Netflix to spend $5b on creating original programmes

Netflix's revenue increased by $7 million in three months

Netflix recently announced its quarterly results and the numbers reveal that the video streaming company plans to invest close to $5 billion in the coming year, Mashable reported.

The company continues to pump billions of dollars into original shows, movies and documentaries, says the report.

"We anticipate that as our global content spend approaches $5 billion in 2016, we will devote more investment to originals both in absolute dollars and percentage terms. This includes not only series, documentaries and stand-up but also original feature films," Netflix told investors in its quarterly earnings call, Mashable said.

Netflix's revenue increased from $1.57 billion to $1.64 billion in three months.

Netflix plans to eventually making half of all videos original content, said the Mashable report. Currently the percentage of original content is only around 7-8 per cent.
