BCG, McKinsey make the most offers in IIMA placements

Cluster 1 saw participation from investment banking, management consulting and PE/VC players

Final placements at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) began with multinationals Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and McKinsey emerging as top recruiters in the first Cluster. The Cluster 1 of the final placement process for the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) class of 2021 saw firms from four cohorts — investment banking and markets, management consulting, advisory consulting and private equity, and venture capital and asset management.

Boston Consulting Group made the highest number of offers — including pre-placement offers at 32 — which was closely followed by McKinsey (30).

Consulting roles in-demand

Other regular recruiters included Accenture Strategy, American Express, Analysys Mason, Arthur D Little, Avendus, Bain & Co, Citi, Credit Suisse, GEP Consulting, Goldman Sachs, IBM, HSBC, Kearney, KPMG, Mastercard, Monitor Deloitte, Nomura, Oliver Wyman, Praxis, PWC &, The Xander Group among others.

Consulting firms, offering management consulting roles across geographies (including Middle East) continue to hire in large numbers, an IIMA statement said. Finance firms offered — including pre-placement offers — roles in investment banking, private equity, venture capital and capital markets across functions and geographies including Singapore. Nomura made the highest number of offers — including pre-placement offers at 7, closely followed by Goldman Sachs and Bank of America — Merrill Lynch at 5 each.

Cluster-cohort process

IIM Ahmedabad follows a cluster-cohort placement process wherein companies offering similar profiles are grouped into cohorts, and several cohorts are invited to the campus in a particular cluster. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic related restrictions and social distancing norms, IIMA is conducting the entire placement process virtually this year.

The Cluster 2 will be conducted on March 5, 2021 and Cluster 3 on March 8, 2021. The final placement process for the PGP-FABM class of 2021 is scheduled on March 5, 2021. The institute will follow a rolling process post that, if necessary.
