IIM-A hosts HR Leadership Conclave 2019

Panelists from industry and academia offer insights on current learning and development practices

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), hosted the fourth leg of the institute’s HR Leadership Conclave on the theme, ‘The Future of Work, Workforce and Learning’ in Bengaluru last week.

The event saw eminent panelists share opinions on topics such as ‘Learning and development needs of new-age and fast-growing organisations’ and ‘Storytelling for learning and change’.

“Every year we use this forum as an opportunity for academia and practice to discuss HR leadership skills and practices. We showcase some of the cutting edge work done by the faculty members, which could impact business practice through interactive platforms, through which we learn from organisations about the challenges they face. We use the insights to incorporate new, innovative solutions in our current and future executive education programmes, teaching and research at IIM-A,” said Prof Biju Varkkey, Chair of IIM-A HR Leadership Conclave 2019.

This conclave focussed on the emerging and latest practices in learning and development functions globally and how they can be applied in organisations to drive the core business agenda.

Corporate, govt connect

Prof Errol D’Souza, Director, IIM-A, said: “IIM-A proactively connects with corporates, Government, alumni and researchers over global forums like HR Leadership Conclaves to discuss recent and emerging trends in organisations and management.”

The participants also got insights from industry leaders on current practices in learning and development. The conference was attended by senior level professionals from HR and other areas in skill development, technology adoption and competency development from various organisations.

Prof Sunil Sharma, Chairperson, EEP, IIM-A, said: “Executive education is an integral part of IIM-A’s learning platform. We partner with organisations and working professionals to create learning opportunities focussed on contemporary management practices. Our executive education programmes are anchored in actionable learning through real business case discussions, simulations, and experiential learning. IIM-A faculty members bring their own research and consulting experience into the classroom to solve business problems.”

Executive education

In this ever-changing world, organisations strive to keep their executives updated with the knowledge and skills to cope with the increasing competition. This is done through management development programmes, or executive education, which helps sharpen leadership skills through discussions, group exercises, simulations and networking events, that aid cross-fertilisation and innovation.

Through its executive education activity, IIM-A has designed and conducted open enrolment and customised programmes for Governments, corporates, multi- national companies and parastatals, such as regulatory bodies, on a wide variety of topics including policy issues.
