IIM-B PhD student’s research paper wins accolades at IISc

A total of 25 papers selected for presentation at COSMAR, four received Best Paper Award

Nabendu Paul, scholar of IIM Bangalore’s Doctoral Programme (PhD), won the third Best Paper Award at the management doctoral colloquium of the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc) COSMAR 2019, which was held on November 28 and 29.

COSMAR or the Consortium of Students in Management Research is an annual research consortium organised by the Department of Management Studies of IISc. The consortium is a forum for interaction among research scholars who specialise in different areas of management and related disciplines.

 

The paper presented by him is from his ongoing PhD work titled, ‘Institutional factors and demand for external finance — A multi-country study’. His dissertation advisory committee consists of IIM-B’s professors Dr M Jayadev, Dr Chetan Subramanian, and Dr Abhinav Anand.The award included a cash prize of ₹5,000.

Presentations

This year, 83 abstracts were submitted by management research scholars from the IIMs, IITs, NITs, and other reputed institutions. After the review, 25 papers were selected for presentations at COSMAR 2019. Out of these 25 papers, eight papers were from the finance and accounting area. These presenters were from IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIT Madras (two), IIT Kanpur, MNIT Jaipur, Pondicherry University, and University of Kerala.

Presenters from other specialised areas were from IIM Lucknow, IIT Hyderabad, and CUSAT Trivandrum. Four papers received the Best Paper Award. These papers were presented by students from IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, IIM Bangalore and NITK Surathkal. Nabendu’s Paper shared the third Best Paper Award (a joint award) with a student from NITK Surathkal.
