IIM Kozhikode (IIM-K) announced a fee cut of ₹2 lakh as a measure of its commitment and solidarity with the State of Kerala, its citizens, the businesses hailing from the State and the economy of the State. IIM-K has taken this step to help rebuild the economy and recapture wealth-creating capability impounded by the floods in the state. The institute hopes that this opportunity will help the younger community of the region to stand together with the State and help develop managerial capabilities, it said in a release. In line with this initiative, the current applicants for the batch of 2018-20 will pay a fee of ₹8 lakhs (plus applicable taxes).

A substantial number of the aspirants for the EPGP Programme at the Kochi campus of IIM-K hail from in and around Ernakulam, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram . These regions were affected by the recent deluge. Additionally, the institute has also extended the EPGP online application deadline to October 6. The EMAT entrance test and interviews have also been rescheduled for October 13 and 14.

Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director at IIMK said, “In the month of August, the unprecedented rains created havoc among the citizens and the economy of Kerala. In the midst of this chaos, alumni, staff, students and faculty of IIM-K contributed, money, belongings, and manpower to help people. Along with IIM-K, many government and non-government agencies, individuals and institutions also offered help. The unique Kerala model of governance, synonymous with empowerment at the grassroot-level managed the situation with great compassion and competence. The institute has been directly and indirectly involved in rebuilding Kerala in collaboration with the students and the alumni. Hence, as a proactive measure to alleviate the pain, IIM Kozhikode has trimmed down the fees by ₹2 lakhs.
