IIM Shillong organises entrepreneurship summit

The entrepreneurship cell of IIM Shillong - i-Cube recently hosted its annual entrepreneurship summit EmergE 2015. The summit was inaugurated by M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager at the Reserve Bank of India, who discussed the role of micro-financing in helping the underprivileged gain access to cheaper sources of finance and the way forward for banking in India.

The two day summit kick started with the felicitation of the Vasundhara awardees for 2015, an initiative by the SSM, Guwahati to recognise women entrepreneurs of the North East. The awardees were invited to IIM Shillong to share their entrepreneurial journey.

The summit started with the Investors' Conclave - an interactive session with venture capitalists - Rajendra Kalur, Founder Director & Chief Executive Officer of TrustPlutus Wealth Managers (India); Anju Gupta, President and Co-Founder, IvyCamp; and Sumit Mehrra, Chief Executive Officer, The Green Umbrella Investment Advisory. The conclave delivered insights about the growing entrepreneurial environment in India and a rise in venture capital funding for the same.

The Logistics Conclave, which involved discussion with experts Sreenivas Saba, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, eCourierz.com; Sudhakar Vintha, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, ReturnTrucks; and Nataraja Subramanian, Business Head, Miebach Consulting - facilitated exchange of ideas on the growth and penetration of the e-commerce industry.

The final event, Mobile Space Conclave, hosted entrepreneurs including Damandeep Singh Soni, Head - India Business, Line Messenger; Karan Sarin, Head of Marketing, OnePlus; and Sudhanshu Gupta, Associate Vice-President Business, Paytm. The conclave's discussion centred around the growth of the smart phone business and innovative transformation within the industry.

An 'Expert's Talk' was also held during the summit including speakers like Vishal Kaul, Category Head for Smartphones and Tablets, Samsung India Electronics; and Karan Gambhir, Industry Head for Technology at Google India, who imparted insights relating to the industry and how to go about an entrepreneurial venture.

The students of IIM Shillong also organised a cultural evening where one of the most popular band from Shillong, "Colours" mesmerised the crowd and marked the end of EmergE-2015.
