IIM-A gets fresh funding for conservation of iconic campus

It has received a total of ₹47.5 crore as contribution from alumni and well-wishers

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Monday informed that it has received total ₹47.5 crore as contribution from the alumni and well-wishers for the conservation and restoration projects at its iconic campus in the city. The fresh funding came from its alumnus and founder and Managing Director of Shankara Building Products, Sukumar Srinivas for a dorm restoration.

Also, PP Gupta, a 1974-PGP student, contributed for another dorm, making it his second major contribution to IIM-A after PP Gupta auditorium in the New Campus. Earlier, Zydus Cadila Group led by Pankaj Patel, who is also IIM-A board member committed funding for yet another dorm.

Announcing the contributions, IIM-A director, Ashish Nanda said, "So far, we have received total funding of ₹47.5 crore for restoration and conservation projects, which are going on at the campus. Several meaningful contributions from our alumni and well-wishers have led to financial support for almost all the classrooms and four of the dorms in our Heritage Campus."

Nanda mentioned that total currently 14 dorms out of total 18 required restoration, in addition to the two floors on the classroom side and a library.

The entire restoration and conservation project at IIM-A has various phases. Nanda stated that in the subsequent phases, restoration of Louis Kahn Plaza, faculty wings, seminar rooms, programme offices among others will be taken up.

"The way we are receiving contributions, we are hopeful to get more support from the donors," added Nanda.

Apart from these contributions, additional contributions towards restoration and upgradation came from an alumni couple for classroom CR-5 and by alumni of PGP 1982 batch for classroom CR-2, they preferred the remain anonymous, stated Nanda.

"This support will not only upgrade the physical facilities essential for learning but also help us conserve the iconic heritage campus of the Institute. We are very thankful to all the contributors for their generous support” said Prof. Rakesh Basant, Dean A&ER, IIM-A.
