IIMK launches e-learning platform for villagers of Mavoor

Under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, the institute has been working towards bringing a change in rural India

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK), has launched an e-learning platform and a library for the for villagers in Mavoor, one of the five villages adopted by the institute, under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.

Prof Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK, said, “IIM Kozhikode has been a pioneer in spearheading social development at a community level since its inception. Programmes like Unnat Bharat Abhiyan aim to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions.”

Leveraging knowledge institutions

He was speaking at an awareness-driven webinar on the National Education Policy 2020. The virtual session coordinated by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of IIMK met witnessed participation from a diverse set of local stakeholders — students, faculty members, district and Gram Panchayat members, educators, public servants, research scholars, library professionals, administrators and educationists.

The 450 enthusiastic participants were introduced and briefed on the various aspects of NEP 2020, by an expert panel of IIMK’s faculty members.

IIM Kozhikode has partnered with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and has been playing an active role in furthering the development agenda and fortifying institutional capacity, by providing the relevant training to suit the national needs, especially those of rural India. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education and it aims to find solutions to accelerate sustainable growth in rural India.

Village development plan

Prof Anubha Shekhar Sinha, Coordinator, UBA Cell, IIMK, shared that the institute has adopted five villages — Mavoor, Kuttikkattoor, Narikkuni, Puthur, and Puthuppadi, of the Kozhikode district, under the UBA initiative of Ministry of Education.

She also added that the baseline socio-economic survey and focus group discussions are being carried out with the involvement of faculties and the PGP students of IIMK, to prepare the village development plan (VDP) for each village. The intervention activities will be brought in action based on the VDP.
