Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, invites start-up owner’s, innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas during its annual event, Himalayan start-up trek, and get an opportunity to meet investors or experts. It will be hosted on September 14 and 15. The last date to apply is August 31.

In the past two years, IIT Mandi’s technology business incubator Catalyst has disbursed over ₹1 crore in grants and investments to more than 30 start-ups — 16 are from Himachal Pradesh. Of these, four start-ups have progressed into the commercialisation phase. These start-ups have generated more than 60 employment and internship opportunities.

The shortlisted candidates will get ₹16.5 lakh worth of grant and investment through an in-campus residential programme from IIT Mandi Catalyst.

Shaping the ideas

The early stage start-ups will learn about the fundamental aspects of running a business. Operational start-ups which already have some experience will get to meet investors.

Dr Puran Singh, Faculty in-charge, IIT Mandi Catalyst, said, “HST 2019 is an event that is diligently curated to benefit the early stage start-ups. Entrepreneur talks, tech talks and one-on-one meeting with start-up experts will help shape the ideas of budding entrepreneurs. We invite start-ups from across the country to experience first-hand start-up ecosystem that IIT Mandi is building in the hills.”

Catalyst aims to create impact in relevant areas such as renewable energy, healthcare, road safety, disaster management, clean energy and education, particularly focusing on the Himalayan region.
