IMI Kolkata hosts women safety workshop

IMI Kolkata hosted three-month-long workshop sessions aimed at the betterment of safety standards of the women around us, organised by Kolkata Traffic Police, South West Traffic Guard, and James Long Sarani Traffic Guard. IMI Kolkata Director Prof Mohua Banerjee, said: “There is a constant inner voice asking, “Are we safe”. This is a setback for the women in our society.”

Biplab Sinha, Assistant Commissioner of Police, South West Division, spoke about organising this chain of sessions, and said: “These sessions will bring together two perspectives, of the drivers and the passengers, on the same platform.” Prasenjit Ghosh, OC, Traffic, James Log Traffic Guard added, “There is a constant effort put in by the police for making Kolkata a safe city, both for the residents and visitors. The cab and auto drivers of the city become the first point of contact for visitors, and hence, responsible.”

Edwin J Charles, Assistant Commissioner of Police, South West Traffic Guard spoke about how these sessions will create awareness and feelings of safety during travel in the minds of all the women in the city.

Prof Mohua Banerjee, Director, IMI Kolkata felicitated the event as the Chief Guest of Honour, along with Edwin J Charles, Assistant Commissioner of Police, South West Traffic Guard; Biplab Sinha, Assistant Commissioner of Police, South West Division, and Prasenjit Ghosh, OC, Traffic, James Long Traffic Guard, and other notable guests from the traffic police forces of South West Traffic Guard and James Long Sarani Traffic Guard. The instructors of the session, Seema Singh and Mala Goswami, addressed a group of over 100 cab and auto drivers from across the city.

The session concluded with the distribution of certificates to all the attendees of the session and a hopeful note of having a safer society and the safest of journeys.
