IMI Kolkata’s Dr Rituparna Basu wins Sankalp award

Associate Professor of Marketing is Researcher of the Year for practice-led research in several areas

Dr Rituparna Basu, Associate Professor of Marketing, Retail and Entrepreneurship in IMI Kolkata, recently won the Best Researcher Award at the Sankalp Education Awards Ceremony held on September 1, 2019 at JW Marriott Hotel, Kolkata. In this edition of Sankalp Education Awards, held in association with Lions Clubs International, David & Goliath and FACES (Friends of Alumni/Ae of Colleges Educational Institutes and Schools), the ceremony felicitated outstanding teaching and significant contributions made by teachers in strengthening the quality of learning and teaching in the country.

At this gala event, the speakers acknowledged the outstanding work by educational institutions, individuals, edu-tech companies and education start-ups. Among notable individual award winners were Rev Dr J Felix Raj, Educationist of the Year; Akhtar Ali, Lifetime Achievement award winner in Sports Education; and Dr Rituparna Basu of IMI Kolkata, who was bestowed the Researcher of the Year award.

While receiving her award Dr Basu talked of the importance of research in refining the education ecosystem in the country. She said, “I thankfully acknowledge the vision and direction of Prof Arindam Banik, the Director of IMI Kolkata, who has been instrumental in fostering a research-focused learning environment in the institute, that has not only attracted a whole lot of attention to the research output of our faculty but is also keeping us inspired to pursue active research and bringing the fruits of such inquiry to the classroom.”

Dr Rituparna Basu is a dynamic young academician and researcher. In her six years with IMI Kolkata, she has inspired many students and researchers, both on and off campus. She has received several prestigious global awards for her contribution to management teaching and research and is particularly known for her practice-led research across a wide range of topics such as retail, sports marketing and children as consumers that is making an impact across the global academic fraternity. She is the first ever double award winner of the ‘ISB Ivey Global Case Competition 2018’ and her cases are available on Harvard Business School Publishing indexes.

Dr Basu is currently a Mentor for the Atal Innovation Mission under Niti Aayog. She is a part of the Startup Bengal initiative by the West Bengal Government.
