LIBA, NISM to launch securities market course for PGDM students

Programme to fulfil growing demand for comprehensive understanding of securities market

Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) and National Institute of Securities Market (NISM), an education initiative of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), have announced a joint venture to design a programme with a specialised focus on the securities market. This programme will focus on providing education for students and professionals and will create standards to improve financial literacy in the country.

LIBA will offer this course from the next academic year (2018-19).

The joint venture marks yet another milestone in industry-academia collaboration to fulfil the growing demand for a comprehensive understanding of the securities market in India. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Fr P Christie, SJ, Director – LIBA and Sandip Ghose, Director, NISM, along with other senior management representatives and academicians from NISM and LIBA.

NISM and LIBA will together design a management course that specialises in this segment and bridges the skill gap in the securities sector. There will be full-time and part-time (three months, six months and one year) programmes, certification programmes, workshop and faculty development programmes.

Fr. Christie said: “It is a momentous event for LIBA to sign a MoU with NISM as an industry partner to offer programmes in the securities. With its expertise, NISM will add value to the courses at LIBA. LIBA is the first B-school in South India that will offer securities market training as a specialisation for PGDM students. We are happy to note that LIBA, with its focus on excellence and ethics, has found a renowned industry partner that espouses the same values.”

Commenting on the MoU, Sandip Ghose said: “The field of securities market education is a confluence of related areas such as economics, finance, accounting, reporting and much more. With the increasing demand for stock market skills, it is important to create awareness about stock exchanges and mutual funds, and to increase participation in the securities market. We strongly believe that this MoU with LIBA will help in promote securities market research and education.”
