Management challenges analysed at IIM Kozhikode conference

Event, jointly organised with AIMS International, supports sound practices in business disciplines

The 17th Association of Indian Management Scholars (AIMS) international conference on management; jointly organised by AIMS International and Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) was held at IIM-K. Themed ‘Management challenges in an uncertain environment’, it drew more than 200 scholars and researchers who contributed to workshops, paper presentations and technical sessions held during the three-day meet.

The mission of AIMS is to unify Indian management scholars and to foster excellence in education and research, to advance knowledge, and support sound practices in all business and related disciplines. It organises professional conferences and publishes a journal.

Academician and sales and CRM expert Prof Atul Parvatiyar, Rawls College of Business, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, US, was the chief guest and keynote speaker on the inaugural day. Prof Parvatiyar spoke on the various aspects of macro-economic uncertainties, the switch from bilateral to multilateral trade movements and the shifts in business models in the current nationalism versus globalisation debate. Prof Omprakash Gupta, University of Houston-Downtown, US, chaired the inaugural session.

Research and innovation

Prof Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode, said: “Research and innovation are the two lynchpins on which human evolution thrives. Researchers and scholars are not only expected to live up to the expectations of their peers but also have the greater responsibility of fostering the advancement of a scientific temper among future generations.” He gave away awards to those who have contributed significantly to management education.

Special workshops and paper presentations on topics ranging from conventional domains of operations management, Indian capital markets, human resource management and finance to trending areas such as brand management, social media, solar energy and entrepreneurship, were held. Prof. Sudershan Kuntluru of IIM Kozhikode, the conference co-chair, gave the vote of thanks.
