‘Need to develop managerial competence in education administration’

Participants at ITM Business School workshop discuss administrative challenges

In most colleges and business schools, most of professors who are inclined towards teaching and research instead find themselves saddled with administrative roles. They end up in senior posts such as Director, Principal, Heads of Department, Registrar and so on.

“There is little formal preparation for the job and very little opportunity of renewal. But, now territory is getting larger, more complex and more challenging day by day. So it is imperative to develop managerial competence in education administration,” said Prasanna Sivanandam, Campus Head, ITM Business School, Chennai.

ITM organised a management development programme for senior professors of all colleges in Chennai to discuss this issue. “The main aim of this conference was to bring together the senior professors of all the colleges and discuss the managerial competence of the individuals in education administration,” said Dr Sivanandam in a press release.

The guests for the conference included Dr Lalitha Balakrishnan, Principal M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai, who was the chief guest and Sumitra Ghose, Head-Special Initiatives, TCS, Chennai.

Different sessions, like inter-personal relationships for personal and professional effectiveness, team building and team effectiveness, leadership skills for effective administration and transaction analysis / mood analysis were conducted during the workshop.
