Promoting business in the North East

XLRI and MIMS are hosting a national conference on opportunities in the region

XLRI, Jamshedpur, and Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS) will jointly organise a national conference on ‘Promoting Business Opportunities’ in north-east India, in light of India’s ‘Act East’ policy.

The three-day conference that will begin on November 14, will be held at the Manipur Institute of Management, Manipur University, Imphal.

Despite abundance of natural resources, India’s north-east has long been neglected in terms of economic and social development, a press statement issued by XLRI said.

While it presents a huge opportunity for investment and growth of business enterprises, a critical appraisal of key economic indicators along with a detailed sketch of the strengths of each of these States is necessary to achieve a holistic framework and target growth in the region.

The aim of the conference is to draw out strategies that will promote business opportunities in the north-eastern States. The institutes are inviting submissions for paper presentation at the conference, the last date of which is September 30.

The conference aims to provide a platform for policy makers, researchers and practitioners to present their understanding on how business opportunities can be promoted in the region.

“We aim to draw out strategies to promote business opportunities for north-east India at the conference. We invite practitioners and experts to present papers on how business opportunities could be promoted in the region. Some topics important for the North-East have been identified. However, we welcome papers on any topic that focuses on the development of the region,” Pingali Venugopal, Coordinator, Centre for Global Management and Responsible Leadership at XLRI, said in a press statement.

A pre-conference case workshop will be organised on November 14 with the purpose of introducing case teaching methods and highlighting the importance of writing business cases for teaching purposes. These will be imparted to the faculty and doctoral students of the North-East and also guide them in drawing up an action plan for the region.

The Conference will be co-chaired by Ibohal Meitei (Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, Manipur University), Teidor Lyngdoh (Marketing professor, XLRI, Jamshedpur), Pingali Venugopal and David F Marbaniang (Department of Business Administration in St Anthony’s College, Shillong).
