Ranjan Banerjee to continue as Dean of SPJIMR

Next term of five years will start on June 6; Dean acknowledges collaborative efforts of faculty

The governing body of Bhavan’s SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) has announced the extension of Dean Dr Ranjan Banerjee’s term for another five years. Dr Banerjee will begin his second term on June 6, 2020. Bharatiya Vidya Bhava trustee and HDFC Chairman Mr Deepak Parekh, who is also Chairman of the Institute’s Governing Body, made this announcement to the faculty body on May 28.

Deepak Parekh said “The Governing Council appointed a new leader at the Institute five years ago. Since then, we have been pleased at the visible progress made in a number of areas, such as curriculum enhancement, industry engagement, external standing, infrastructure, new faculty hiring, research culture, new initiatives like Centre for Financial Studies. This has reflected in the institute figuring in the QS global list of the world's top 200 business schools. There are only five Indian Institutes to make it to this list and we are one of them. We believe that leadership continuity will be a significant enabler in the institute’s future progress and wish every success to Ranjan and the team at SPJIMR.”

International renown

SPJIMR has achieved many milestones in recent years. The institute received the prestigious AACSB accreditation in 2018. AACSB Accreditation has been earned by only 5 per cent of the world’s schools. SPJIMR has also started a unique Post Graduate Management Programme for Women (PGMPW) (to bring talented women back to the workplace) and a Fellow Programme in Management (FPM).

An innovative executive-in-residence programme for accomplished industry leaders has been started. SPJIMR has steadily improved its position in global and national rankings. The institute has won three global innovation awards from AACSB and AMBA, and has received multiple awards on the national stage.

Unstinted efforts

In his message to faculty, staff and students, Dr Ranjan Banerjee said: “It has been a privilege to lead SPJIMR. If we have made progress, it is because of the unstinted and collaborative efforts of faculty, staff, students and alumni. There is much left to be done, and I look forward to working with the SPJIMR community to take the institute further.”

Before joining SPJIMR, Dr Banerjee had extensive experience in business, corporate training, academics and consulting. He holds a BTech from IIT Bombay, an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a PhD in Management from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, US.
