Risk-taking ability helps develop an entrepreneur: Vikas Khanna

Khanna, an alumnus of WGSHA, recommended young hospitality students to focus on acquiring knowledge

The ability to take risk helps a person to grow as an entrepreneur, according to the noted Chef Vikas Khanna. Speaking at the Alumni Entrepreneurs’ Summit 2020 of Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) under Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) on a virtual platform, Khanna explained about how ‘risk-taking’ and ‘being focused’ play a very important role for one to grow as a chef and entrepreneur.

Khanna said he would never have experienced and understood the meaning of cooking and food like he knows them today had he never come to Manipal. Khanna, who is an alumnus of WGSHA, asked the young hospitality students to absorb knowledge and information from their teachers and be benefited by it as the future leaders of the industry.

He thanked his teachers, friends, and the the town of Udupi for the knowledge he gained about culture and food. Vikas Mahajan, Chief Executive Officer at River Cree Resort and Casino at Edmonton in Canada and an alumnus of WGSHA, gave tips on leadership qualities. He also focused on topics such as positive attitude, hard work, work-life balance, taking chances, and making mistakes.

The other speakers, who spoke on the occasion, were positive about the hospitality industry in India post the pandemic. Students discussed various topics like the role of innovation, education, women entrepreneurship, funding, marketing, with the speakers at the summit. Explaining the significance of hospitality entrepreneurship in the Indian economy, Thirugnanasambantham, Principal of WGSHA, urged the students to get insights on entrepreneurship in hospitality and tourism through this summit.
