The Mangaluru-based Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management has opened three centres of excellence in emerging areas of technology. The areas include ‘Digital Forensics Intelligence and Cyber Security’, ‘Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning’, and ‘Robotic Welding’.
The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, Ashwath Narayan CN, inaugurated the ‘Centre of Excellence in Digital Forensics Intelligence and Cyber Security’ on Wednesday.
According to the college authorities, this CoE is to foster a benchmark framework for network and system forensics for the benefit of the modern societies, capacity building to law enforcement agencies, legal practitioners, faculty fraternity and students of higher learning.
Sahyadri College’s ‘Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning’ is aimed at fostering research, and develop solutions that address societal problems, and become an artificial intelligence competency centre that provides a platform for collaboration between industry and academia. It would also help to impart AI based high-quality training for the students and faculty members involved in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes and engage them in design thinking.
The ‘Centre of Excellence in Digital Forensics Intelligence and Cyber Security’ and the ‘Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning’ are funded ₹80 lakh by the Department of Electronics, IT, BT, and Science and Technology of the Karnataka government.
The ‘Centre of Excellence in Robotic Welding’, which was opened on Wednesday, is jointly funded by the Karnataka government and Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. The objective of establishing a robotic welding centre of excellence is to facilitate the local industrial needs in terms of precision manufacturing and training the manpower, the college authorities said.
