Ten candidates score 100 percentile in CAT 2019

A total of 2,09,926 candidates across 156 cities took the test, the highest number in 10 years

The results of the Common Admission Test 2019, for entry into the IIMs and other business schools, were declared on Saturday, January 4. Ten candidates scored an overall 100 percentile in this year’s CAT.

A press release from IIM Kozhikode, the IIM that convened the CAT this year, says that all the 10 candidates receiving the highest overall percentile are men, and are from the engineering/technology background. Of these candidates, six are from the IITs, two from the NITs, and one from Jadavpur University.

Of the candidates scoring an overall 100 percentile, four are from Maharashtra and the rest are from six other States — Jharkhand, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The release says that 21 candidates have scored an overall 99.99 percentile in CAT 2019. Of these candidates, 19 are from the engineering/technology background.

CAT 2019 was conducted in two shifts on November 24. A total of 2,09,926 candidates appeared for the examination, which was conducted at 376 test centres spread across 156 cities in India. CAT 2019 saw the highest number of CAT test-takers in the last 10 years. This year, 75,004 women took the test while 1,34,917 men appeared for the CAT. Five transgender candidates also took the test.

The IIMs will now release their shortlists for the subsequent admission processes based on, among other things, the CAT 2019 scores. More than 115 other non-IIM institutions will also use the CAT 2019 scores this year for admission into their management programmes, says the release.

Announcing the results for CAT 2019, Prof Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, said “This year’s CAT examination was one of the smoothest exams held in recent years. IIM Kozhikode feels privileged and expresses its gratitude to all stakeholders on behalf of all the 20 IIMs for the seamless conduct of CAT 2019.”

Prof Shubhasis Dey of IIM-K was the CAT Convener for 2019.
