Understanding and preparing for design entrance exams

Avantika University's workshop offered a peek into designers' minds

Avantika University, among India’s top design-centered universities, participated at Design Meraki 2017-18 in Bhopal. Design Meraki witnessed participation from curious aspirants to learn more about the design industry. Through this initiative, the university reached out to applicants inclined towards pursuing design as a career and are preparing for the design entrance examinations.

Looking to offer a peep into the minds of the designers, the university conducted an experiential learning workshop with over 100 industrial design aspirants. Industrial design is a process of design applied to products that are to be manufactured through techniques of mass production. The workshop included hands-on and practical learning opportunities to prototype ideas and showcase creativity for the participants. They were exposed to problem-solving techniques, by learning the ideology of ideation. The session offered them insight into the design process by solving challenges that made the participants understand the world of design and design thinking.

Addressing the participants, Professor Sanjay Jain, Director, Design Education for Avantika University, said, “Design is not just a proprietary professional skill but a life skill. To help you acquire this skill the best teachers are 5Ws (Why, What, Who, Where and When) and 1H (How).” Professor Jain presented Avantika University's unique learning approach to aspiring students and their parents. Through his dialogue, he offered a reflection on the various facets of design as a discipline, its applications and career progression. Professor Jain highlighted the university's focus on how it can help develop a student’s mind through a design-centered approach that lays prominence to synthesis over analysis.
