Giving back to the society

SIMSR, Mumbai, will hold the third edition of Kartavya, the NGO mela, aimed at providing aid to NGOs

Kartavya — the NGO mela is a unique event that has been going on for the past two years. Held at Sasmira’s Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) in Mumbai (under leadership of President Maganlal Doshi, Vice President Mihir Mehta and Executive Director UK Gangopadhyay), Kartavya is the college’s CSR activity.

What is it?

Kartavya means social responsibility, and that’s exactly what this event intends to promote. Using its easily available resource — students — the institute gives various NGOs substantial monetary support through funds raised by activities such as ‘The Donation Drive’ and corporate and personal sponsorships.

The event also acts as a platform for the NGO’s to display their products and to create awareness about how they help uplift the society. Kartavya is not just about providing monetary help to these NGOs but also helps various “amateur” artists entertain people with their talents (like performance by underprivileged kids and singers, amongst others). The most anticipated event, that is also the highlight, is the ‘wheelchair dance’ performed by a group of self-empowered, differently-abled people.
