Bannari Amman Institute of Technology bags IET accreditation

Students get opportunities for international mobility, job prospects, and so on

Bannari Amman Institute of Technology Sathyamangalam (BIT) has been awarded IET’s International Accreditation for eight of its undergraduate engineering programmes. IET accreditation is an internationally recognised benchmark, awarded to high quality engineering programmes. BIT applied for the IET accreditation for its programmes in 2018.

In addition to serving as a measure of quality benchmarking for academic programmes, IET accreditation also provides direct benefits to students graduating from BIT. Successful outcomes of eight programmes will have a positive impact on eight graduating batches between 2016 to 2023. These benefits include opportunities for international mobility, job prospects, and acceptance of graduate students in foreign universities. It also enhances opportunities for interdisciplinary research as well as exchanges. The accreditation has been awarded for an initial period of three years. This will be reviewed at the end of the term and a successful review outcome will extend the accreditation for an additional two years.

Dr S V Balasubramaniam, Chairman, BIT said, “I am happy to receive international accreditation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (The IET, UK). Bannari Amman Institute of Technology is celebrating its silver jubilee 25th year and the IET accreditation makes it special for the standards of education we offer.”

Courses accredited include Bachelors of Engineering programmes in automobile, mechanical, electronics and communications, electrical and electronics, electronics and instrumentation, computer science, information and technology and mechatronics. With the successful completion of the accreditation process, BIT will join the IET’s 85+ academic partners across globe.

Dr M P Vijayakumar IAS (Retd), Trustee of BIT said, “The Institution of Engineering and Technology (the IET-UK) accreditation to Bannari Amman Institute of Technology is a recognition of our aim and objective to provide the best learning experience to the students. We at BIT have implemented many initiatives to make our education world-class, and our efforts are starting to yield rich dividends. This IET-UK accreditation presents us with yet another opportunity to take our efforts to global forums and be discussed among the finest academicians of the world for accurate feedback and further refinements. I am happy that our students and staff will have more exposure to the global academic standards in the fields of engineering and technology".

“I am delighted to welcome BIT to a global community of educational institutions that are committed to upgrading their programmes to reflect real world demands,” said Daniel Canty, Head of Awards & Accreditation IET, UK.

The IET is one of the world’s leading professional bodies for engineers and is the only society licensed to accredit engineering programmes. IET accreditation, licensed by the Engineering Council-UK, covers a broad spectrum of engineering and technology subjects. It is recognised around the world as an indicator of quality through the Washington and Sydney Accords, governed by the International Engineering Alliance (IEA). Institutions with IET Accredited programmes are eligible to apply for the EUR-ACE label, awarded by European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE).
