Release date pushed back a few months

The sequel to last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens , with a production title Star Wars Episode VIII , began production on February 15, according to a video posted on YouTube .

The movie was all set to open to theatres on May 26, 2017 but in January, earlier this year, according to an article on The Hollywood Reporter , the release date was pushed back to December 15, 2017. The article quotes insiders from the production house Disney stating that following the success of Force Awakens during the year-end holidays; Episode VIII would also receive the same treatment.

Now, the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, starring Johnny Depp, will release on May 26; it was earlier scheduled to open on July 7, 2017.

Last year, Force Awakens broke all box-office records to become the highest grossing film in North America and the third highest grossing film ever. So far, it has made $2 billion from box offices worldwide. The Star Wars spin off Rogue One will be the next Star Wars to hit theatres and it is set to release on December 16, 2016.
