Shreyas Harish says he wants to provide the reader with an alternate view of a relatable experience

Shreyas Harish, a final year student of the five-year integrated course on Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Madras, has just written his first book, And a Dash of Seasoning . The book is several short stories that are “quintessentially college”. “The context is my own college life, or those similar to mine, set in IIT Madras. The stories present relatable stories through the lens of someone who believes that the universe has extraordinary things planned out for him,” Shreyas says. The stories are tied together through a common thread of inexplicable and exciting events.

Shreyas was also the Cultural Affairs Secretary of IIT Madras and was closely involved in organising IIT Madras’ blockbuster college fest Saarang , which had a spend of ₹1.8 crore. Some of the influences of Saarang have also crept into his book. Shreyas says he is on a mission to collect an eclectic set of experiences around the world after he graduates.

In the book, he talks about a delectable slice of life. “I spend each day trying to spice up the mundane, ignore the routine and flavour the bland with a dash of seasoning,” says Shreyas. The book, he says, provides the young reader with an alternative view of a very relatable college experience.
