When cheap isn’t cheap enough

ZTE Blade A2 Plus offers below par performance among the budget phones

ZTE Blade A2 Plus is a budget phone just under the ₹12,000 category. There are enough smartphones in this category that are real value for money but unfortunately, this device isn’t one of them. Looking much the same as the rest of the crowd of phones do today, it’s a heavy thing because of a 5,000mAh battery. But companies are mistaken if they believe they can thump on one big capability and leave the rest to take care of itself.

The Blade A2 Plus is a standard 5.5-inch phone that only sells online, so you won’t be able to check it out in shops. But where others in this category offer high-end specs and high-speed performance, this device does little more than do the job. The display is adequate and doesn’t have poor colours or compromised angles. The interface has a nice colour picker, in fact, so you can quickly change the basic background of your home screen on the fly. Another nice software feature is that the button on the back panel isn’t just a fingerprint sensor but has been given a few other functions as well. One of these is to act as the shutter release, but using it actually causes your hand to shake and worsen a shot from a camera that is truly subpar.

Perhaps if the Blade A2 Plus had been half its price, it would have been worth considering but currently, at this price, there’s a wealth of other options to choose from.

Price: ₹11,999

Pros: Good display features, versatile back button

Cons: Below par performance, heavy, subpar camera
