Interviews to be held in New Delhi on September 16

Twelve executive directors, including one woman, of various public sector banks will be competing for the posts of managing director and chief executive officers of four public sector banks next week.

The interviews for Managing Directors & CEO posts in Andhra Bank, Indian Bank, Uco Bank and Corporation Bank will be conducted on September 16 in New Delhi, according to sources.

While Andhra Bank and Indian Bank have no Managing Director and CEO at present, these positions in Uco Bank and Corporation Bank will fall vacant shortly.

Each candidate will have to face two selection panels to be chaired by Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan and one of the secretaries of the Ministry of Finance.

The short-listed candidates, who are serving Executive Directors, include SK Kalra (Andhra Bank), RK Takkar (Dena Bank), T Guha (Dena Bank), MK Jain (Indian Bank), SN Patel (OBC), Mukesh Jain (PNB), Ram S Sangapure (PNB), B Rao (PNB), Jai Kumar Garg (Uco Bank), BS Rama Rao (Vijaya Bank), RK Gupta (Bank of Maharashtra) and BK Divakara (Central Bank of India).

The move is significant as full time appointments can boost the business of these banks which are struggling with bad loans.

Andhra Bank, for instance, has a gross NPA ratio of 5.75 per cent and has been without a top boss since April this year.

The gross NPAs of Indian Bank, Uco Bank and Corporation Bank were 4.65 per cent, 7.3 per cent 5.34 per cent, respectively as on June 31, 2015.

In January this year, the government had split the position of Chairman and Managing Director in public sector banks following a recommendation from the RBI as part of corporate governance reforms.
