Congress is giving wrong narratives in 2G verdict: Telecom Minister

All current auctions were not only transparent but also got more revenue, Manoj Sinha says

Commenting on the judgment in 2G scam verdict, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that the Congress party is giving wrong narratives on the verdict.

“Congress is giving wrong narratives in 2G verdict. It's to investigation agencies to look into the matter…UPA government made first come first policy into first come first pay,” Sinha told reporters here in a briefing.

Asked on what will happen to the 122 licences that was quashed, Sinha said that it is related to the next step of investigation agencies. He said the 2008 spectrum allocations were faulty, arbitrary and corrupt.

He said the fate of these licences of eight operators that were cancelled in 2012 will be decided based on the investigative agencies’ take on acquittal of all the accused in the 2G spectrum case.

Praising his government, Sinha said that all auctions during the current government were not only transparent but also got more revenue compared to the previous government, and there was not a single complaint from anyone.

“Spectrum was allocated through auctions thereafter and the collections during NDA rule were 10 per cent higher than the UPA regime, he said, adding that ₹1.9 lakh crore was raised from spectrum auctions since 2015. The NDA government had raised ₹65,789 crore from 2016, he said.
