EDII to guide budding entrepreneurs in 40 backward districts

Appointed resource agency for implementation of projects under Dept of Science & Tech, entrepreneurship board

Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) has said it will provide entrepreneurship support to over 7,000 youth in 40 backward or aspirational districts under a project of the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) and the Department of Science & Technology (DST).

Under the project, entrepreneurship sensitisation and development programmes would be organised for potential entrepreneurs from the selected aspirational districts, keen to set up micro/ small innovative business opportunities. Three such programmes, each with around 60 participants, will be conducted in each of the 40 districts, over a nine-month duration.

Commenting on the EDII's role in the projects, Dr Sunil Shukla, Director, EDII said, "For sustainable growth and development, there is a need to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship among local youth. Through this project, our aim is to mentor a new generation of job creators in the hinterland of India."

In order to push for rapid transformation, sustainable development and growth in the areas of nutrition, education, health, skill development & entrepreneurship, the Centre has identified 115 aspirational districts. EDII has been selected as a national resource agency for 40 districts.

EDII has generated employment for over 60,000 persons in the field of science & technology in the last five years. EDII is also the national implementing agency for a project under the Department of Science & Technology (DST)-National Implementing and Monitoring Agency for Training (NIMAT) project, under which it has trained and sensitised over 5 lakh youth on entrepreneurship between 2013-14 and 2017-18.
