GES 2017: Inculcate entrepreneurship spirit from pre-school days, say experts

'Entrepreneurship is the ability to identify opportunities and create value in them'

In a country like India how does one shift the focus of youngsters from chasing employment opportunities to creating jobs?

"This effort should begin right from the pre-school days in children where teachers can drive kids to become future entrepreneurs," said Patricia G Greene, Director of Women's Bureau, US Department of Labour.

She was speaking in a panel discussion on developing an entrepreneurial ecosystem at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Hyderabad on Thursday.

According to her, entrepreneurship is the ability to identify opportunities and create value in them. To address capital needs, she hinted that one should not expect free Government money to try out their ideas but can seek guarantees.

Ravi Kailas, Chairman, Mytrah Energy, said an ecosystem has a huge impact on creating different types of entrepreneurs. Post liberalisation, especially in the last five to 10 years, there are different positive conditions. Innovative ideas and ventures will always bring in funds, he added.

Amit Ranbir Chandra, MD & India Head, Bain Capital, pointed out that there is a need for domestic capital to address needs of entrepreneurs and one should desist from having 'massive expectations' from the Government. Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, moderated.
