Jaitley to hold post-Budget meeting with industry chambers on Friday

Although the Budget pushed the right reform buttons, it is being seen as a tad too conservative

The Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will meet captains of Indian industry on Friday as part of a customary post-Budget meeting.

It would see Jaitley and senior Finance Ministry officials interacting with representatives of apex industry associations -- CII, FICCI and Assocham, sources said.

This meeting -- to be held in the Capital -- comes just two days after Jaitley presented his fourth Budget of the Modi-led Government.

Although the Budget pushed the right reform buttons, it is being seen as a tad too conservative.

It comes across as restrained both in tone and substance, especially given the imperative to deal with the effects of demonetisation.

For industry, especially the small and medium-sized businesses, there was some tax relief. The corporate tax rate for companies with annual turnover of less than Rs. 50 crore was lowered to 25 per cent.
