US-based iRobot set to sweep Bengalureans off their feet

Floor-cleaning bots Roomba & Braava make India entry

US headquartered, $557-million iRobot, which has sold over 14 million home robots in 60 markets worldwide, is now in Bengaluru. The company has introduced iRobot Roomba that vacuum cleans floors and iRobot Braava that mops (dry or damp) floors at price points ranging from ₹32,000 to ₹70,000.

The robots clean all hard-surface floors and can be programmed to clean at a convenient time; it returns to its home base after cleaning a room or when it needs to be re-charged.

iRobot has opened two 500 sq ft customer experience stores in Bengaluru that will encompass a product display area, demo-area and a service centre.

“We are targeting Roomba and Braava at the busy urban middle-class consumer with an annual income of $5000 - $20,000. We chose to launch in Bengaluru with two stores and after assessing the progress in this city over 24 months, will ramp up our presence in other cities,” Jean Jacques Blanc, Vice President Sales & Marketing, EMEA, Home Robots Business Unit, iRobot, told BusinessLine .

iRobot, which counts the US as its largest market followed by Japan and Spain, is in the process of setting up its online presence. The company will co-invest with Puresight Systems on marketing the robots.
