We really shouldn’t worry what others think of us

A Wharton School professor says being in the spotlight can be daunting, but it need not be

A study co-authored by Alice Moon, Wharton professor of operations, information and decisions, found that when people perform tasks in front of others, they are inclined to believe they are being judged harshly on their performance. But in reality, actors are much harder on themselves than the observers watching them. Such worry and stress can lead to what Moon calls the “Overblown Implications Effect,” a paper she co-authored with other researchers.
