The quiz club of Birla Institute of Managament Technology Greater Noida (BIMTECH) organised their national level quizzing event Cognicioun recently. Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was conducted virtually. Jayakanthan Ranganathan from Tata Consultancy Services emerged as the winner. Preetham Upadhyay, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and Gokul Satheesh, Delhi School of Economics, were the first and the second runners up respectively. Prizes worth ₹70,000 were awarded to the winners and finalists.
The event kicked off with a welcome note and introduction to the quiz master — Venky Srinivasan. Srinivasan is the CEO and Founder of edtech company Nexus Consulting. An IIM Bangalore alumnus with several years of experience in the corporate world, Srinivasan is a well-recognised quiz master who has hosted a bunch of eminent quizzes across the country, including the Pearson Quiz Champs, Exide Life Junior Finance Gurus, Landmark Junior Quiz, Brainiac — the quiz by BBC Knowledge and SportsQuest.
Dr Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH spoke about the role of quizzes in a B-school and elsewhere. The competition received more than 700 registrations. The structure of the event comprised of two rounds — preliminary and finals. The preliminary round consists of 25 questions on the business world, current affairs, economy, and related topics. Of the 200 participants, only eight teams made it to the finals round.
