On day two, the three-day international conclave on ‘Globalising Indian Thought’ hosted at IIM Kozhikode deliberated on issues that would impact global management thoughts in the years to come.
Arun Maira, former Chairman, BCG India; Prabhu Chawla, Editorial Director, New Indian Express; Dr Vijay Chauthaiwale, scientist and political strategist; and Prof Shyam Sunder, James L Frank Professor of Accounting, Economics and Finance, Yale School of Management, were present.
Maira spoke about encouraging inclusive growth in the economy and being sensitive to the environment for sustainable growth. “India’s strength lies is in its diversity and not in the efforts of homogenising ideas,” he said.
Prof Sunder, in his key-note address, elaborated how learning from ancient texts from the Upanishads and teachings of Chanakya have been adopted across state-level functions. He explained how Buddhism had a far-reaching impact on the world and introduced the concept of Sangha, commonly known as Council.
Dr Chauthaiwale spoke about how the Indian diaspora and foreign nationals connect socio-culturally with India. Drawing from the Swadeshi Andholan , Gandhi and his economics, Prof Alok R Chaturvedi, Purdue University, elaborated the concept of ‘factory on wheels’. “We should revisit our roots to reimagine and rethink ideas to build a better world,” he said. Chawla moderated the panel discussing semantics of Indian thought versus Bharatiyata .
On the first day of the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the inaugural address through videoconferencing.
