Encouraging women to ascend the professional ladder

IIM-B will host the third Women Leadership Summit

The third annual Women Leadership Summit, hosted by the Women in Management (WIM) club at IIM Bangalore, will be held on January 15. The objective of the leadership summit, which is a flagship event of the club, is to bring together people from academia, the industry, and entrepreneurs to engage with relevant issues and have conversations about women leadership.

The 2017 edition of the summit, themed ‘To the Helm’, has an interesting line-up of speakers. The keynote addresses will be delivered by Neeta Revankar, CFO, Sasken Technologies and Kaustubh Chakraborty, Ex-Partner, McKinsey & Company. While Neeta delves into how women can make it to the corporate helm citing anecdotes from her own professional journey, Kaustubh will provide a perspective on complementing efforts to enable women leadership.

A panel discussion on ‘Priming for Success’ will feature Do Thu Ha, Professor, Vietnam National University; Chitra V, Manager, Deloitte Consulting USI; and Latha S, CEO, ChipperSage Education, which will be moderated by Vasanthi Srinivasan of the Organizational Behaviour & Human Resources Management area of IIM-B who is also Chairperson, Alumni Relations at IIM-B.

The day will conclude with a workshop on ‘Social entrepreneurship’ which will be conducted by Nagaraja Prakasam, mentor at NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL), the entrepreneurship and incubation centre at IIM-B, and Angel Investor and Founder, Indian Angel Network.

“Women and men often start out on an equal footing at entry levels in corporates. However, the numbers at the top tell a different story. Why is it that such few women are able to successfully ascend the professional ladder? What are the challenges faced, and how can they be overcome? These are the questions that inspired the theme of this summit,” said Anuradha Rao, President, Women in Management club, IIM-B.

IIM-B is the only management school in India to lead in school diversity with 28 per cent women in the two-year management programme, 21 per cent women faculty and 25 per cent of women on the school advisory board.
