IFIM Alumni Association extends support to daily-wage workers

Donates funds that will help sustain families of labourers affected during the COVID-19 crisis

In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, lakhs of daily-wagers ad migrant labourers have been rendered jobless, with many of them stranded and far away from their homes. The Alumni Association of IFIM Business School, among India’s top six AACSB-accredited Business Schools, based in Bengaluru, donated ₹2 lakh for the benefit of 100 daily wage workers. This involves direct monetary transactions to the workers accounts on a weekly basis for four weeks.

Speaking on the initiative Mithun Appaiah, President of IFIM’s Alumni Association, commented, “In these testing times and amid their hardship, daily wage workers are the most impacted and everyone must step up their efforts to build enough support towards this cause to minimise the negative impact. Besides the tragic toll on human life, with countries and States shutting their borders, the global economy has taken a huge hit. The whole world is suffering and is trying to cope with huge losses. But, those without any job security or savings are the most vulnerable. It is incumbent upon us, who have the privilege in terms of job security, to help those less fortunate as we can sustain ourselves by making a living, but we only truly live a life when we give.”

These daily wage workers were identified through IFIM’s trusted non-profit partner ELCIA (Electronics City Industries Association), which is working on the ground to help underprivileged communities fight the pandemic. This initiative by the Alumni Association of IFIM Business School was launched as an emergency response to help provide a safety net to casual labourers’ families.

IFIM Alumni Association supports many social initiatives such as “Kanyathon”, an annual run held for the encouragement of the girl child, the proceeds of which are donated to CRY (Child Rights and You). Previously, the Association has offered 100 per cent scholarships to students whose families have been deeply affected by natural disasters and other calamities.

Established in 1995, IFIM Business School, Bangalore is currently amongst the first six business schools in India to have been awarded the AACSB accreditation. IFIM is also accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), and South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS), and is ISO 9001:2008 certified.
