IIM-T students treated to Kathak performance

Kathak lecture demonstration was conducted by Vidhushi Sushmita Banerjee

The IIM Tiruchirappalli chapter of SPIC-MACAY organised a Kathak lecture demonstration on September 30. It was conducted by Vidhushi Sushmita Banerjee, a distinguished Kathak exponent in India and an awardee of the Emeritus Fellowship by the Government of India for her research in the field.

The famed performer was accompanied by Sanjoy Mukherjee and Anand Gupta on the Tabla and Harmonium respectively.

. The audience sat enthralled, as they were taken on a journey into the history of Kathak, and its evolution to the current form. Banerjee demonstrated numerous variations of the dance form — her performance, marked by nimble footwork and elegant moves, was a treat to watch.

SPIC-MACAY stands for the ‘Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth’, and is a voluntary organisation that hosts programmes of classical music and dance, folk arts, crafts, yoga, classic cinema screenings and heritage walks in school and college campuses throughout the world to increase awareness about Indian and world heritage.

Indian Institute of Management - Tiruchirappalli (IIMT) has been associated with SPIC-MACAY for a year now and conducts various such events to familiarise the students with Indian Classical art forms.
