Make IIM-N an institute of global repute: Gadkari

IIM Nagpur, set up in July 2015, concludes its first convocation

The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM-Nagpur) on Friday held its first annual convocation at its campus, hosted by the IIM Ahmedabad. Union minister for road transport, highways and shipping, Nitin Gadkari delivered the convocation address, calling for the institute to be of global repute.

“This institute should become a global institute. Nagpur will provide quality human resource to the nation. A number of students had to go all the way to Pune or Mumbai for quality education, but we now have it closer home,” said Gadkari in his address.

The institute had started its first batch of Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management in July 2015, with IIM-Ahmedabad as its mentor.

In his address, C P Gurnani, chairman of the board of governors of the institute, said, “India has fast emerged as the research hub for global technology firms such as Google, Microsoft, Uber and Apple, thanks to its unique blend of opportunities — a massive domestic market and cheaper highly-skilled workforce.”

Adding further, he said, “eGovernance and eKranti are two major areas where Indian software development companies can create 17 million direct and 85 million indirect jobs.”

The board of governors and members of the IIM-N society were also present at the convocation.
