NIRF ranks IIMK among top 4 IIMs

IIM Kozhikode

IIM Kozhikode retained its spot among the top 4 IIMs in the country in the NIRF India Rankings 2022, released by the Ministry of Education today.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), introduced by the Ministry of Education since 2016, outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country and is considered to be the most authoritative in India.

IIMK says it has now surpassed older institutions like IIM Lucknow, MDI Gurgaon, XLRI Jamshedpur, NITIE Mumbai for the second year running. Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, released the NIRF rankings, at an event in New Delhi attended by Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK, other institutional heads and officials of the Ministry of Education. Overall, IIMK is now among the Top 5 management institutions in the country for consecutive years (2021 & 2022).

The parameters for ranking include teaching, learning & resources (TLR, 30 per cent), research and professional practice (RP, 30 per cent), graduation outcomes (GO, 20 per cent), outreach and inclusivity (OI, 10 per cent) and perception (PR, 10 per cent).

IIM’s overall score has seen improvement from 69.96 in 2020 to 73.34 in 2021 to eventually 74.74 in 2022; thus closing the gap with older IIMs. IIMK’s conscious outreach efforts to encourage a diverse classroom and bring in gender as well as social inclusivity by introducing several measures, has resulted in a 15 per cent increase in scores under ‘outreach & inclusivity’ this year, says a press release from IIMK.

Prof Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK

The other major contributor to IIMK’s improved showing in scores is attributed to 5 per cent increase in teaching, learning & resources (TLR) category.

Sharing his thoughts on this major milestone for IIMK, Prof. Debashis Chatterjeesaid, “IIM Kozhikode’s soaring scores in the most definitive rankings of the country is a testimony to our commitment to a diverse and inclusive classroom that comes along with the promise of world class education and infrastructure facilities. To be placed among Top 4 IIMs in the country, for a second time running, only reinforces our belief to continue on the path of embracing dynamic reforms, encouraging research and propagating our Institute mission of globalizing Indian thought.”
