Shailendra Raj Mehta gets second term as MICA President

Dr Mehta’s first term ended on May 31; new term of three years starting June 1

The MICA Governing Council has re-appointed Dr Shailendra Raj Mehta as President and Director, MICA, for a second term starting June 1, 2020. During his first term that ended on May 31, 2020, Dr Mehta not only attempted expanding the international scope of the institute by partnering with various management schools globally but also exemplified the pedagogical change by introducing project-based and simulation-based learning for the students.

Announcing his confirmation, Dr Tridip Suhrud, Chairperson, Governing Council, MICA said, “Professor Shailendra Raj Mehta completed the first term as President and Director of MICA on 31 May 2020. It gives me immense pleasure to convey that the MICA Governing Council has appointed Prof Mehta as President and Director of MICA for three years starting June 1, 2020. I extend good wishes on behalf of the Governing Council.”

Talking about his extension, Dr Mehta said, “Over the last three years, there has never been a dull day at MICA, and working with all the stakeholders we have accomplished impossible seeming goals. Every day brings new possibilities, new collaborations, new initiatives and new celebrations. I do not expect that to change going forward.”

He added, “MICA is the School of Ideas. Our focus on the generation, publication and dissemination of ideas has deepened. Our faculty have won the top professional awards in their fields. They’re working with the foremost scholars in the world, publishing in the topmost journals, and writing the definitive text books that will be used globally.”

Future plans

Speaking about going further, he said, “MICA has always been known for its excellence in pedagogy. This will be furthered through a new experiential learning and pedagogy.

He said last year, MICA launched the MICA Impact projects, where its students worked with companies, NGOs and the government to make visible and measurable impact on the ground. “This year we are launching the MICA- Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre, through which all students will work towards launching their own start-ups.”

An economist and an academician, Dr Mehta received his Bachelor’s and Masters’ degrees from Delhi University (St. Stephen’s College and Delhi School of Economics, respectively), and got his M.Phil. degree from Balliol College, Oxford. His Ph.D is from Harvard University.

In June 2017, he became the President and Director of MICA. He is also the distinguished professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at MICA.
