SPJIMR introduces business analytics specialisation for PGPM

The focus is to build hands-on analytical skills and the ability to manage large data sets and code

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s SPJIMR (S P Jain Institute of Management & Research) has introduced business analytics as a new specialisation to its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) for professionals with more than five years of work experience. This will be offered in addition to the existing specialisations of finance, information management, marketing and operations, and supply chain.

The focus of the analytics specialisation would be to build deep, hands-on skills in analytics, including the ability to manage large data sets and writing code. It is aimed at helping students in pursuing careers in the analytics or business consulting domains, said a press release from the institute.

“Business analytics specialisation has been launched with inputs from senior academicians and industry professionals in the analytics domain. The new specialisation is designed to equip tomorrow’s managers with strong skills in analytics for decision making, which will enable them to shape their managerial practice in the coming years,” said Prof Nilendra Singh Pawar, Chairperson, PGPM.

Eligibility

The PGPM is a one-year, full-time residential management programme preceded by three months of online learning.

In the first six months, participants will develop fundamental understanding of all business domains including economics, finance, marketing, operations, information management, organisational behaviour and communication. The participants will then dive into courses of the analytics domain including big data analytics, machine learning, predictive analytics, neural networks, stochastic modelling, natural language processing among others. Along with specialising in analytics courses, each participant will also be doing a minor in either marketing, finance, information management or operations and supply chain.

Participants opting for business analytics specialisation are expected to have a strong inclination towards working with numbers and statistical tools. While a past experience in analytics and/or allied areas is preferred, it is not a mandatory criterion for participants to apply. Other requirements of eligibility remain the same as for other specialisations — having 5+ years of full-time work experience and a valid GMAT/CAT score. Last date for applying for the programme is August 15, 2021.
