In an online lecture on the current state of the Indian economy, organised by the Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee, the keynote speaker, KV Subramanian, Chief Economic Advisor, Government of India, shared strategic insights on the role of the Indian economy in the global landscape, especially amid the Covid-19 crisis, and stressed the significance of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’ The lecture witnessed a virtual participation of over 400 delegates, including students, educationists and corporate professionals.
True to roots
The CK Prahalad memorial lecture is named after the renowned business thinker. Armed with extensive knowledge and expertise in economic policy, banking, and corporate governance, Subramanian spoke of the contribution of Indian scriptures such as Kautilya’s Arthashastra and the Upanishads in strengthening the foundation of economic principles. He motivated students to learn from Indian literature and apply them to tackle the challenges of the current economic scenario. Moreover, he also explained that fortune can be attained only when we work for the lowermost level of the economic pyramid, endorsing the ideas of Prof CK Prahalad.
The objective of the initiative was to recognise and commemorate the contribution of CK Prahalad, who was widely acclaimed for laying the base of the ‘pyramid studies’, an area of research that explores how businesses should adopt sustainable growth while playing a role in alleviating poverty.
Shaping future leaders
The online session ended with an interaction between the speaker and the delegates, where Dr Subramanian answered all the participants’ queries with keen enthusiasm. The lecture also highlighted the flexibility of the education system and underscored the significance of digital media in fostering a learning culture.
