India Inc to go on hiring spree next year

About 76 per cent of companies in India plan to raise employee headcount in next 12 months

There’s good news in store for those looking to change jobs, as around 76 per cent of companies in India are expecting to increase employee headcount in the next 12 months, according to Michael Page’s India Salary and Employment Outlook 2015-2016. About 36 per cent of the companies will increase their headcount by 11 per cent to 20 per cent, and 11 per cent will increase hiring by 21-30 per cent.

Analytics and big data is the top skill-set that companies will be hiring for, say 52 per cent of the recruiters. The second most sought after skill, with 42 per cent of the vote, is sales development, while the next three important skills sought after are product management, project management and financial control.

Company culture

About 99 per cent of respondents indicated that their direct employees will receive a salary increase in the next 12 months, with 62 per cent of these increases in the 10-15 per cent range. The survey says 86 per cent of respondents stated that their direct employees will receive a bonus as part of their remuneration, with almost half (49 per cent) of these again in the 10-15 per cent range.

Most (60 per cent) companies are creating a strong company culture to attract top talent. Around 50 per cent use a structured career progression to get the best talent. Some of the top retention methods adopted by most firms include financial incentives, and recognition and rewards.

Social media

A strong online presence, particularly on social media, helps facilitate talent acquisition as Indians become increasingly comfortable utilising platforms such as LinkedIn to grow their careers, said the survey.

The key reasons why employees will leave their current companies were better salary, and a senior position in the new job. Another interesting shift is that recruiters are moving towards aptitude-based hiring.

The survey combines qualitative and quantitative inputs from more than 240 employers and covers a range of trends and issues relevant to today’s recruitment landscape.
