9-to-5? Probably not the best option now

Independent contractors are favoured by companies nowadays

It might be time to ditch the conventional 9-to-5 timings of jobs. Rather than full-time staff, companies are turning more to hiring freelancers and part-time employees, stating that independent contractors bring fresh ideas without long-term commitment.

In this article by Associated Press for The Washington Post , 23 million people in the US were self-employed in 2013, and the trend seems to be moving in that direction. Experts quoted in the article are of the opinion that more and more people want to take ownership of their career.

Depending on the industry, the work can pay extremely well. According to heads of certain companies, independent contractors can make between $1,500 and $2,500 a day. They also believe that it cuts the search and qualification time down.
