Employee branding — a must-do for corporates

Companies today leverage their brand to attract and retain the best talents in the market

Just like products and services, corporates too need to brand themselves these days. The concept of employer branding is now de rigueur. An article on staffing major Randstad India’s site says that companies are leveraging their brand presence to communicate and attract employees who matter, by displaying their workplace as unique and appealing.

Why is it important today?

Why is a company’s in-built reputation not enough? Employer branding, the article says, can be a tool to attract and retain quality talent; to capitalise on the right people in times of economic downturn; to leverage the company’s popularity and strength; and to boost business growth and profitability.

Randstad says that companies must realise that what people think of their product or service is not similar to what they make of the company as an employer. People may love the company’s products and services, but might not consider working for the firm.

Attract the right talent

The candidates that the employer is trying to attract might not know what it’s like to work for the company, as they have no insights into the company and its culture. But if a company has an outstanding employer brand, it is in a better position to attract the right talent. Silicon Valley companies such as Google and Facebook, go to extraordinary lengths to project themselves as employee-friendly, thus attracting top talent.
