Mount Fuji to have Wi-Fi connectivity

The service will be available for 72 hours from your first login

Imagine you’re on top of the world at Mount Fuji and you can’t wait post the picture on Instagram. But you scream in frustration because there’s not much connectivity. Well you don’t need to despair now, for Japan is all set to introduce free Wi-Fi at Mount Fuji, an article on Mashable says.

The service will be rolled out from Friday, and be available for hikers is eight locations, including resorts, according to the Asahi Shimbun, a local newspaper.

“We hope people will use the service not only to tell about the attractions of Mount Fuji but also to obtain weather and other information to ensure their safety,” a government official told the outlet.

Requests brought change

It was because a number of European and American visitors gave the suggestion that Internet be brought to the mountain that officials acted. Last year, around 40,000 to 50,000 foreign tourists walked the Yoshidaguchi trail.

The catch

Here’s the catch. The Wi-Fi will be available for 72 hours of your first login. So if you haven’t posted a picture on social networking sites on time, you know whom to blame.

Internet in wilderness seems to be catching up across the world. For instance, North American National Parks have been debating over whether to bring connectivity or not. Canada, on the other hand, had announced in 2014 to install Wi-Fi in over 20 locations.
