Nepal’s schools re-open with make-shift arrangements

In the devastating April earthquake of magnitude 7.8, 25,000 plus classrooms in around 8,000 schools were destroyed.

Rebuilding efforts have focused on using materials such as bamboo, wood and tarpaulin to make the schools immediately functional.

The classes will for the time being focus on group activities to help children recover from the trauma of the disaster.

The UN has said that food and shelter aid needs to continue to flow in one month on from the quake for those left homeless. Meanwhile, the Nepal government, criticised for its slow response, has called for more direct aid.
