Now you can access your phone through your vehicle

Smartphone integration achieves new heights with technologies to connect it with your car

With our dependency on smartphones increasing day by day, tech giants have come up with technologies to help connect your smartphone with your vehicle. By this time next year, you could be able to access smartphone apps through your car’s infotainment system.

Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s AndroidAuto are the two technologies headlining this smartphone integration movement, for which demand is quite high. 40 different models of vehicles will be equipped by CarPlay, while dozens more will be equipped with AndroidAuto. General Motors (GM) appears to be the biggest client for these technologies. GM’s Chevrolet division will add both CarPlay and Android Auto to 14 of its models in 2016, including the next-generation Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid and the redesigned Chevy Malibu sedan. Along with GM, their rival Ford will also be offering both technologies in its vehicles.

However, not all smartphone apps can be operated through CarPlay or Android Auto. The systems will be programmed to handle a limited number of apps. The user will also have access to the phone's contact list, calendar and text messages. Click to read the article
