Seoul years ahead of Silicon Valley

The kind of technology in use in Seoul makes it feel like Sillicon Valley is still in the Dark Ages

An eye-opening article published in the New York Times speaks about how despite being more chaotic than Sillicon valley, Souoth Korea, Seoul to be mor especific was years ahead of the supposed mobile capital of the world.

With unimaginable internet speeds, the Korean public is constantly connected on the internet. This is all thanks to the Korean government's two-decade long investement in the public spaces. Some of the world's faster internet speeds are available to the entire city fo Seoul, 'twice as fast as the average American’s'. In 1995, the Korean government decided to build on the internet infrastructure in the country to help the citizens understand the internet. Because of the this involvement of the Korean government, regulations on service providers were eased, thus provided a freer and much more competitve market for said service providers.

The only catch in this case is that despite the speeds, much of the mobile technology present in Korea is stuck in the 90s - design-wise at least. So the Korean government has now decided to pump in $1.5 billion to upgrade the mobile infrastructure. The growth is so great, at the rate that Korea is evolving, that the government predicts that by 2020 internet speeds will be 1000 times faster. To put it into perspective, a feature-length movie, roughly two hours long on an average, would be downloaded in a second.
